Hurricane Warning Upgraded For Jimena

Good morning everyone. Just got the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center on Hurricane Jimena over in the Eastern Pacific. The storm is still on the threshold of being a Category Five Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale with winds of 155 miles per hour, and a minimum central pressure of 931 millibars, or 27.49 inches of Hg.

The storm, which is moving to the North-Northwest near 12 miles per hour, is located approximately 155 miles South of Cabo San Lucas, or 315 miles South-Southeast of Cabo Lazaro in the Baja California region of Mexico. The size of the storm has not changed since last night with hurricane force winds extending some 45 miles from the eye while tropical storm force winds reach some 140 miles. What has changed is the extent of the Hurricane Warnings. They are now in effect from Puerto San Andresito southward on the West Coast of the Baja, and on the East Coast from Loreto southward to Cabo San Lucas. Hurricane Watches now extend from north of Puerto San Andresito to Punta Eugenia on the West Coast and from north of Loreto to Bahia San Juan Bautista.

A Tropical Storm Watch also remains in effect for the West Coast of the Mexican mainland from Altata to Huatabampito. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible, but the latest discussion from the NHC still keeps Jimena from reaching Category Five status. Hurricaneville will continue to monitor this dangerous storm as it heads toward landfall in the Baja.
