SPC Places New Jersey Among Those Under Slight Risk For Severe Weather

Here is an update from Greg’s Weather Center on the severe weather situation for Saturday.  Just took a look at the Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service Office in Mount Holly, New Jersey.  In the outlook, it mentioned that the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has placed the Mid-Atlantic region as well as Southeastern Michigan, eastern half of Ohio, extreme Southern New York and Southern New England.

The SPC also indicated that the greatest likelihood for severe weather in this region is from Central Pennsylvania to the Atlantic with portions of Central and Eastern Pennsylvania as well as much of New Jersey having a 30 percent chance of storms with significant wind.  The entire region also has a 15 percent chance of hail developing.  With the large dome of high pressure responsible for the recent heatwave moving into the Mid-Atlantic, an increase in upper level winds from the Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic, and a approaching cold front, there are ingredients in place for strong to severe thunderstorms to develop late this afternoon and early this evening.

GWC will continue to track the severe weather situation.
