New Wave In Eastern Atlantic Still Worth Watching

As Tropical Storm Erika waned in the Atlantic, and Hurricane Jimena showed some mercy prior to landfall in the Eastern Pacific, another threat began to develop on the horizon. A tropical wave in the Eastern Atlantic is gaining some attention at the start of the Labor Day Holiday Weekend.

According to the latest Tropical Weather Outlook, an area of low pressure located some 175 miles West-Southwest of the Southernmost Cape Verde Islands in the Eastern Atlantic, is associated with a tropical wave. Thunderstorm activity has been lacking with this disturbance, but there is some potential for gradual development over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Right now, the NHC gives the disturbance a 30 to 50 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the form of either a depression, or a tropical storm over the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, activity continues to percolate across the African continent with another area of showers and storms moving through Mali and Mauritania while another cluster of storms is heading westward through Niger and Nigeria.
