Ready For Another Heatwave?

Temperatures Begin Rising Today; Will Be In 90s From Thursday Through Sunday

Last week, the summer season officially began, and it was kicked off by a three day heatwave that gripped the Garden State. After a brief respite that followed thunderstorm outbreaks on Friday and Monday, residents in New Jersey are going to have to prepare for more heat and humidity.

Wednesday will be the transition day with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s after being in the upper 70s to low 80s since Saturday. Starting Thursday though, the mercury will climb into the 90s with temperatures in the mid 90s on Thursday and Friday, and then getting into upper 90s and Saturday and Sunday.

The source of the upcoming heatwave will be high pressure moving in from the Midwest and Southeast. Temperatures in places like Cincinnati will be hitting records of over 100 degrees. Atlanta is forecast to be in the mid 90s today, but by the weekend, temperatures will be over 100 degrees. According to the Weather Channel, Friday’s high is expected to be 102. Saturday’s is anticipated to be 103, and Sunday’s is forecast to be back down to 102 in Hotlanta.

All of this heat and humidity is pushing eastward. Right now, the National Weather Service has either a Heat Advisory, an Excessive Heat Watch, or an Excessive Heat Warning out in 11 states across the Midwest and Great Plains. The Chicago metro area is under an Excessive Heat Watch while much of Kansas and Missouri is under an Excessive Heat Warning.

Places in the Eastern United States are already preparing for the hot weather. The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the Philadelphia metro area from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. Heat index values will be around 100 degrees during that period.

The forecast for South Plainfield is calling for a high of 86 today, 90 on Thursday, 94 on Friday and Saturday, and 93 on Sunday.
