Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Northwestern Middlesex County

Storm In Morris County Has 60 MPH Winds

Over the past couple hours, conditions outside here in the Raritan Center section of Edison have changed.  With warmer and more humid air in place, there was still a possibility of a severe thunderstorm developing during the afternoon.

The possibility existed on Saturday, but never came to fruition.  However, the threat has returned for today, and it does appear that it will become reality for Northwestern Middlesex County.  Skies darkened about an hour ago over Northern Middlesex County, and the warning went into effect at 6:00 PM.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for North Central Middlesex County, Somerset County, Northeastern Hunterdon County, and South Central Morris County.  The storm, which was originally located near Mendham outside Morristown in Morris County, moved through the area of Peapack and Gladstone, Far Hills, Martinsville, and Bridgewater in Somerset County.

It is now headed toward Somerville, Bound Brook, Middlesex Borough, and even Dunellen and South Plainfield.  The storm cell is moving to the south at 25 miles per hour, and possesses winds of 60 miles per hour, dangerous cloud to ground lightning, and heavy rain.  The heavy downpours could cause flooding in low lying drainage areas.

The warning is in effect until 6:45 PM.
