Sunny Start To A Warmer Day

Isolated Thunderstorms Possible This Afternoon

Another nice day for the most part is on tap for the Central Jersey area. Expect pretty much the same type of day as on Thursday with the exception of warmer temperatures and the chance of thunderstorms not stretching as far south. Northwestern Middlesex County is off to a sunny start with plenty of blue skies.

There is still an area of low pressure off the Northeastern United States that has been responsible for the unstable and unsettled weather all week here in Central Jersey. It will continue to spin as it drifts further out to sea, and that will cause strong to severe thunderstorms to pinwheel off of it as the day progresses, and the heating of the day reaches its maximum.

After a low of 54 degrees, the mercury has climbed to 68 this morning here in South Plainfield. The high temperature on Thursday was 77.5. Dew points have been lower and the heat index hasn’t strayed away from the actual temperature as conditions were comfortable. Peak wind gust on Thursday was 8 miles per hour and that probably occurred in the late afternoon as a thunderstorm developed near the area.

So far this month, we have had 0.83 inches of rain, and for the year, we are up to 9.69 inches. The recent rains have helped New Jersey escape the drought threat for the time being.
