Hurricane Irene–Update

Good evening everyone.  Irene is beginning to impose her will on the Central Jersey region. Here is the latest update on the weather here in South Plainfield.  Temperature is 73 degrees with the humidity of 98 percent for a dew point of 72 degrees.  So far, we’ve had 1.13 inches of rain, and much more is on the way.

Barometric pressure has dropped another 0.12 inches, or four millibars to 29.59 inches of Hg, or 1002 millibars.  The situation is getting more and more serious by the hour.  I was down at Waterfront Park in South Amboy, and the storm surge is rising in Raritan Bay.  I will have a blog post about my experience as well as video footage posted soon.

A Tornado Warning is in effect from Atlantic City, New Jersey and Southern Ocean County after a tornado ripped through Lewes, Delaware.  Rainfall has become very heavy outside.  The raindrops are very big, and rainfall rates are one to two inches per hour depending on where you are.  Driving home from my trip to South Amboy, I had to deal with very difficult driving conditions thanks to the heavy rain.
