Mid-Summer Deluge On Sunday In Jersey

Good morning everyone. Hope you have your rain gear and galoshes on because it is pouring outside here in Central Jersey. Just took a look at the rain gauge from the backyard weather station, and we have exactly 2.5 inches of rain in South Plainfield since about 11:30 PM on Saturday night.

Thank goodness I cleared out the debris that was building up in the rain gauge. It has been pouring on and off in South Plainfield as well as everywhere else in the Garden State. A number of strong thunderstorms brought tropical rainfall especially in Northwestern New Jersey, where rain amounts were already in upwards of two and a half inches as of last night’s evening news weather report.

Rain amounts continue to skyrocket. Portions of the New York City Metropolitan area received up to four inches of rain as of 7:45 AM this morning. Forecasts were calling for 7.1 inches of rain to occur in Sussex County while White Plains, New York was expected to get between 6 and 7 inches of rain. We have a long line of strong thunderstorms stretching across the Garden State into Delaware in the South and New York in the north.

The inclement weather is expected to last for much of the day before tapering off to mild to moderate showers tonight and Monday. However, indications are that the rain is expected to linger into Wednesday.
