Morning Sun Dimmed By Afternoon Clouds

Good afternoon everyone. Well, what had been a promising start to this Saturday turned into more of the same stagnant weather pattern that we have been dealing with for the past week. Clouds have moved over the area here in the Raritan Center portion of Edison, New Jersey, and the National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for the area to be on the lookout for showers capable of producing heavy downpours.

There is even a flood warning in effect for several counties in Northern New Jersey. Looking at the radar conditions courtesy of the Doppler Radar out of Wrightsville in Burlington County, there are some showers and thunderstorms crossing over into Western Jersey from Pennsylvania. One such cluster is located in the area of Warren County while another is further east moving from Hunterdon into Somerset County. Taking a look at the satellite imagery, the pesky low pressure system that had been dominating our weather for the past week, has moved well offshore although there are some bands of clouds and showers extending into parts of New England.

Looking upstream, there is a vast and vigorous low pressure system extending from the Northern Plains into South Central Canada, and the upper Midwest. The National Weather Service forecast for Northwestern Middlesex County is still calling for scattered showers and thunderstorms with high temperatures only getting into the low 70s after earlier projections indicated that we could top out near 80. I guess the cloud cover that has built in over the past several hours has kept the temperatures down. The showers and storms should taper off by about 7:00 PM. Low temperature should fall to about 58 degrees. Chance of rain this afternoon and evening is expected to be only about 30 percent.
