Warm Week Setting Up For Garden State

Temperatures Expected To Be In The 70s For Much Of The Week In Jersey

Happy Easter everyone!  It has been quite a month weather wise not only around New Jersey, but throughout the country.  Flooding, severe weather, tornadoes, wildfires, and even snow.  From Texas in the south to the northern tier states to the East Coast, a large segment of the population has been affected by rough weather this month.  We’ll get to that later though in another post to the blog.  For now, we are going to talk about the warm weather shaping up for this week.

The forecast for the Garden State as well as the rest of the New York City Metro area indicates that temperatures will be at their warmest levels for the longest stretch so far this year.  The mercury is expected to hover in the 70s all this week starting on Easter Sunday.  The thermometer is going to be in the mid 70s on Sunday, and that will continue on Monday.  Cloud cover from approaching showers and thunderstorms may keep temperatures down in the upper 60s on Monday, and there is a threat of thunderstorms throughout much of the period, but we could be finally seeing a spring time pattern developing.

According to the forecast for Northwestern Middlesex County courtesy of the National Weather Service Office in Mount Holly, New Jersey, temperatures were expected to climb into the upper 70s on Sunday afternoon with a 50 percent chance of severe weather.  The high for South Plainfield was expected to reach 78 degrees.  A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued by the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma for much of New Jersey including Middlesex County.  The watch was in effect until 9:00 PM EDT on Sunday night and called for the possibility of large hail, damaging winds, and moderate to heavy rain.

Some of the rain may produce localized flooding.  The precipitation outlook for the rest of the five day period is going to be mostly a murky one.  There is a chance for showers and thunderstorms for each day this week.  Tuesday appears to be the best looking day so far with Partly Sunny skies and temperatures reaching near 80 degrees.  There is only a 20 percent chance of rain on Tuesday night.
