Countdown To Atlantic Hurricane Season 2008 Is On

Good morning everyone. While there is a great focus on the severe weather that developed in the Great Plains overnight on Thursday thanks to that developing storm system mentioned in this blog the other day, I wanted to point out to everyone that the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season is rapidly approaching. With the passing of the first day of May, we now have 31 days until the start of the season, which is expected to be an active one according to recent seasonal forecasts.

Over the next month, Hurricaneville will be spending some time trying to prepare and get ready. In recent weeks, the web site has acquired safety and preparedness material that has been posted in the Downloads section of the web site for all of you to look at. Although that information is mostly courtesy of the New Jersey State Office of Emergency Management as well as local agencies in my hometown of South Plainfield, New Jersey. However, the information and data within are useful for everyone to follow regardless of what area you live in. Nevertheless, if you feel the information is not sufficient, or that you need more, you should contact your local Emergency Management Office in your hometown.

Like last year, one of the things that Hurricaneville will be doing is getting a list of things such as supplies, essentials, first aid material, etc. This year, the web site will use the information recently obtained to get more than it did last year, and try to be better prepared. There will continue to be updates to the blog, but keep your eyes peeled for some news articles appearing or being updated in the news section. I continue to read books, and have a list of tasks to do. Just trying to find the time to do them in light of my new work schedule. I just started training at a new job this week so my mind has been preoccupied mostly with that. Hopefully this weekend I will not only have the time, but also have the energy to get some things done.
