Guess What? Severe Thunderstorm Warning In New Jersey Until 10:30 PM

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Good evening again everyone. Well, yesterday, and again today, I had indicated that there was the possibility of thunderstorms on Tuesday night. Not only is there a chance, but they could be even severe. After updating the site in the afternoon, I had spent much of the evening watching some television. At about 9:30 PM, my mother alerted me to the fact that the National Weather Service had issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Morris County New Jersey.

So, I then went to the Weather Channel’s Weatherscan channel, and noticed that the squall line that I had indicated was in Pennsylvania earlier today was pushing through Western Jersey, and heading eastward with a beeline toward my home here in Northwestern Middlesex County. Associated with this line of severe storms is nickel sized hail and 60 mile per hour winds. The storm is moving rapidly eastward at 50 miles per hour. Areas that are in the line of fire as far as the storm is concerned are Chester, Basking Ridge, Millington, Morristown, Parsippany, and East Hanover. Looking at the latest Doppler Radar, you can see that the storm’s southern edge seems to be headed toward extreme Southern Union County and Northern Middlesex County, which could mean that some of the chaotic weather tonight is headed my way.

For the areas outside of Morris County, the NWS issued a Special Weather Statement that advised residents to be on the lookout for Scattered Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms that are capable of producing brief heavy rains, small hail, and winds over 40 miles per hour. At the moment (9:58 PM EDT on April 1st), temperatures in the area range from 62 to 66 degrees while tomorrow’s highs here in Central New Jersey are expected to only climb to the low 50s. Bottom line is that there is a significant change in the weather on the way, and these strong to severe thunderstorms are the harbinger of that change.
