GWC Storm Footage–February 21, 2014–Fog with a Rumble of Thunder

Here is some video footage of the squall line coming through South Plainfield on the afternoon of the third Friday in February 2014. On this day, a cold front followed a warm front, and brought in gusty winds, heavy rain, a flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder. Prior to that, there were foggy conditions thanks to the warm front coming through, and raising temperatures into the mid 40s.

Here is video footage of another snowstorm moving through Northern Middlesex County on the third Saturday of February 2014. On this day, another Alberta Clipper system moved in bringing with it another 2 to 4 inches of snow to towns such as South Plainfield and Edison. The snow added to the 10 or so inches of snow that fell two days before.

Here is storm footage of a recent winter storm that affected South Plainfield. This snowstorm was perhaps the biggest of the year with at least 10 inches of snow here in South Plainfield. Winds were also gusting up to 40 miles per hour. The barometric pressure dropped from 30.49 inches on Wednesday to 29.03 inches on Thursday night. The barometric pressure bottomed out at an equivalent of a Category One Hurricane. Snowfall rates were up to 4 inches per hour at times, and there was even some thunder and lightning.

Here is a time lapse video of clouds developing over South Plainfield in advance of more snow on the second Sunday of February 2014. The snowfall, provided by another Alberta Clipper was minor, but it reinforced the cold air already in place and set the stage for a much bigger storm later in the week.

GWC Time Lapse–February 5, 2014–Ice Storm

Here is a time lapse video of the ice storm that impacted Northwestern Middlesex County on the first Wednesday in February 2014. The ice accumulation was between 0.25 and 0.33 inches across Central Jersey. The accretion was already on top of the 2 inches of snow that fell during the overnight hours starting at about midnight. The snow and ice created very slippery conditions across New Jersey as well as the Tri-State region.

Here is a time lapse video of weather conditions in South Plainfield on the first Monday of February 2014. Another snowstorm blanketed the area with snow during the day, and paralyzed Northern Middlesex County during the afternoon rush. Normal trips of 20 to 30 minutes took over an hour, and even more. The storm brought 6 inches of snow to the area, and was the first of three storms that week.

Here is a slideshow from photos taken earlier this week of the snow that has piled up around Northern Middlesex County. The snow cover has given this part of the world a look more like that of the Hoth Ice Planet from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The combination of recent cold weather and storms has left behind large piles of snow in places such as Edison and South Plainfield.
