Here is weather footage of conditions over Watchung Lake in Somerset County on the afternoon of June 25, 2014. On this date severe weather developed in Eastern Pennsylvania, and pushed eastward into New Jersey. Storms fizzled at Watchung Lake, but at GWC in South Plainfield, approximately 0.38 inches of rain fell after a high of 89 degrees and a peak dew point of 76.

Here is storm footage of an afternoon thunderstorm that moved through South Plainfield, New Jersey on June 13th. This was a second of severe thunderstorms that affected GWC and South Plainfield on this date. Coupled with a morning downpour, the afternoon storm brought 1.14 inches of rain at GWC.

Here is footage of a morning downpour outside of Greg’s Weather Center in South Plainfield on June 13, 2014. The rainfall was half of the rainfall that would occur on this day. Another round of storms would develop in the afternoon.

Here is storm footage of weather conditions in the Raritan Center section of Edison, New Jersey on the afternoon of June 3, 2014. On this day, thunderstorms broke through the heat of a 90 degree high temperature, and a peak dew point of 71 degrees at GWC in South Plainfield to bring gusty winds and brief rain.

Temperatures Expected To Warm Back Up Into The 80s; Storms Possible From Monday Night To Thursday

After a back door cold front that brought showery conditions to Northwest Middlesex County as well as strong to severe thunderstorms for the southern half of the Garden State on Tuesday afternoon, temperatures cooled down into the mid 60s before gradually warming back up into the mid 70s by Friday and Saturday. The return of warmer temperatures will continue into this week, but with an increasing threat of storms by mid-week.

A more warm and moist flow is setting up for the Mid-Atlantic over the next few days, and things will gradually become more unstable as a cold front begins to approach from the west by Wednesday and Thursday. Severe weather is possible in the Ohio Valley region and Western Appalachians by Wednesday with the cities of Indianapolis, Columbus (OH), Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh having a 30 percent chance of severe weather on Wednesday according to the latest 4 to 8 day Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

Looking at the latest seven day forecast for South Plainfield. The possibility of thunderstorms begins on Monday night with a 20 percent chance, and then increases to 50 percent by Tuesday night. The chance goes down a bit on Wednesday, but goes back up again to 50 percent by Thursday. During this period, temperatures will be ranging from 79 to 81 degrees for highs during the period while lows will range from the low 50s on Sunday night to the mid 60s on Wednesday morning.
